Description

Salt and pepper pebble is a mix of white, light gray and black stone. Spread out as ground cover, it reads as a speckled gray from a few feet away, so it sits well next to white stucco, dark trim, gray pavers and drought-tolerant planting.

At about 3/4 in., it’s small enough to walk on and to fill in around pavers and stepping stones. Water drains straight through it, which makes it a good pick for water-wise yards.

How much do I need?

Multiply the length by the width of your area in feet to get square feet. At 2 in. deep, a 10 x 8 ft planter bed is 80 sq ft, which is about one 1/2 yard scoop. For a small spot, figure 2 to 3 sq ft per 50 lb bag.

Install tips

1. Pull weeds and rake the area level.
2. Lay landscape fabric so weeds stay down and the stone doesn’t sink into the soil.
3. Put in edging to keep the stone in the bed.
4. Spread it about 2 in. deep, rake it smooth and hose it down to rinse off the dust.
